Bread with Jesus by Nicole - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
Choosing only one historical figure to have dinner with is an almost impossible task. Many great leaders in history, like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or even Maya Angelou, would all be amazing dinner companions. However, if I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would choose Jesus Christ.
Even those who do not take Jesus Christ as their savior can agree that He was a great leader. He had many disciples in his time, and now has millions of followers. He healed those who were sick, and was kind to those who did not deserve it. And for those who believe, He died for our sins -- something that makes me ask, “Why?” If I had dinner with Jesus, I would ask Him that very question. Throughout my life, I have struggled with never feeling “good enough.” This feeling always leaves me filled with doubts circling my brain, day and night. Being a person of faith, it is sometimes difficult to hold strong onto my beliefs when these doubts enter my mind.
If I had dinner with Jesus, I believe these doubts of faith, and doubts in myself would go away, and I could become a stronger person overall.
