Time Management by Nicole - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

When attending an early college high school, your high school experience gets split in two: high school and college. My experience was much like that, and if you were to look at my high school grades, you’d think I was perfect. But I took advantage of my college experience and made many mistakes during my time. It took me a while, but I finally learned from these mistakes and this upcoming year is for me to thrive in my education and become the person that’s actually possible for me to be. When I reflected over my mistakes these past few years and how I could fix them, and the result has been one simple resolution: time management. It’s simple really, there’s three different parts of time management to help me turn into a better student.
The first is to always show up to class. Sometimes, when my classes seem too easy, I stop showing up for lessons which causes for me to fall behind easily. After talking to most of my friends, they all recommended that even if the material was easy, I should show up to class even if it was to study on my own.
I will also spend at least thirty minutes every day finishing up homework. Usually, I’d do as much homework as I could in school but never any at home. With at least thirty minutes every school day, I can finish my homework, get ahead in current projects, and clean up my notes for studying.
Lastly, I’m going to use my time by schedule time before big project dates to actually do the work. In the past, I would write down the date it was due and forget about it until the day before. I’d fight to get as much of it done and turn it in even if I didn’t finish it. This usually led to major projects that took up a big part of my grade that weren’t done very well and usually didn’t get a very good grade.
Overall, managing my time will really help me turn into a better student. As I attend classes, spend extra time studying, and planning ahead for projects and test, I truly believe that it can help this year and the rest that I spend continuing my education.
