To Be Heard by Nicole - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

The most important lesson I have learned is to be social. I have always been a shy person. After hiding myself from people I learned the easiest way for us to come together is to be the first to send an invitation and start a connection. I believe everyone wants to be a part of society in a way that moves others around them. I enjoy being socially active and making people smile. Although at first, the fear of rejection can be scary and overwhelming, the promise of making more friends and people to rely on is a better alternative than living like a hermit. Including others in activities and social circles is a win for both parties. Spreading humor and joy gives me pleasure too. I love watching friends and family laugh; I consider it a precious gift every time.

My life goal is to spread the love I feel for my family and friends each day by making them feel loved in even the smallest ways. I enjoy simple measure including baking, crocheting, and dancing like a lunatic while singing at the top of my lungs in my terrible voice. Love can give us all inspiration in to achieve our goals. The support from my family is a strong motivator to complete my studies. I have hope that I will someday be able to own a business in order to increase the most support and motivation I can to all those who need a simple hand up. Even though I have tried to overcome my shyness I still catch myself veering down the path of solidarity occasionally. I hope to someday overcome my natural instincts so that I may be able to help others that need support.
