If the roles were reversed, which academic subject would you teach and why? by Nicole - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

I have always had the small dream of being a teacher tucked in a minuscule corner of my mind. The fantasy of being able to inspire kids with new teaching techniques and methods has always intrigued me. Being a teenager in high school has made me see how influential a teacher can be in a student's life. I would love to be able to instruct people in the subject of biology.
Science and the composition of animals has always been a compelling passion of mine. My teacher's have been able to show me that you can learn through experiments. My mind learns by performing a task and expanding upon a concept. I love that science possesses mysterious concepts of further research and exploration. Biology is so compelling because you can verify theories and anything can be accomplished.
Biology helps people to appreciate the world we live in. It teaches people that they need to respect the land they walk on and protect the animals on this Earth. Diving into the depths of physiology and molecular organisms takes students back into a time of the archaic world. We need to protect the Earth and living things from being polluted. If I was a teacher I would be able to influence people's decisions. By this I mean, I could help to minimize the destruction of a world that is so beautiful.
As a teacher, I would also encourage more females to be a part of the STEM field. The differing ratio of female to male in most scientific jobs is unquestionably substantial. Girls must be taught through ways that make them love science therefore they can improve the world around them.
Teaching science in a way to encourage kids to participate in STEM fields can not only improve the world but give a positive outlook on science. I would teach biology to influence young minds and provide solutions, and explanations, for the world that we live in.
