Providing care to the hungry by Nicholas - January 2024 Scholarship Essay

I have always really liked helping others. My mom has helped me realize that doing small things can make a big difference. I did not know how to begin and felt a little uncomfortable sometimes but once I got started collecting canned food and warm clothes for the less fortunate of my community, I found out how easy it was and how good it makes me feel to provide basic needs to people.

Through many of the opportunities that I have had to help others, I have learned that being observant and asking questions can really help a person get through adversity. I have met many people that are in hard situations that never thought they would be in. It makes me realize that I can help someone by just listening to them. I don't need to necessarily offer them help but I can lend my ear and learn a lot about their life.

I look forward to continuing my work with people in need in the future because I have come to learn that a little goes a long way. I know I can make a big impact on even just one person by listening to them, learning about them and possible offering my help.
