Passion Through Tough Times by Nicholas - August 2023 Scholarship Essay
My biggest achievement in my education was breaking down my creative process, and then being able to turn my creativity on even during tough times, or alternatively being able to use those emotions through those tough times to fuel my writing. This is something I actually learned in the last semester of college. I had a somewhat rough time last semester. It seems like people weren't as open as I was to making new friends, and it was a lot of each others first semester, so the freshman status didn't help any of our abilities to socialize, as none of us really were equipped to be social butterflies when we've barely settled in.
I did end up making a friend, or even something more, out of someone. To not get bogged down by the nitty gritty details, we dated for a bit, then broke up, and then she unfriended me. It was not a great time for myself, and so my mental health was basically in the gutter at this moment. I began to slack on school work, just barely turning stuff in on time. Closer to the end of the semester, I started to realize that I could just use those emotions I have and use it for creative fuel for my writing. All of the sudden the passion was back, I was writing up storms, making webpages like it was nothing (even if I really hated doing it,) etc. I get it that sometimes you stumble on some hard times and just want to be a ball of sadness, but I learned that a better use of that energy is to channel it into something you love doing, driving your passion even further.
