Asian Culture by Nereida - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
I believe if you are going to teach something it should be something that you truly love. If I were a college professor I would really enjoy teaching Asian culture. This is because ever since I was 13 years old I have been fascinated with Asian society and culture, specifically Korea and Japan. Why Korea and Japan, you ask. Like I said before my fascination started at age 13 when I discovered K-pop and anime through a few YouTube videos. As a child, I was amazed by the voices and awesome dance moves of the Korean idols and the Japanese animation and story plotting. Korean pop and anime encouraged me to search for information about their culture on my own time, just for fun, which is something I would personally almost never do.
Over the past few years my curiosity for Asian culture has grown to the point that I now want to study international business, again focusing on Korea and Japan. I am now amazed on how different things are on the other side of the world, they are known to be more conservative, their education system a bit harsher, the technology more advance and crime rates are lower. Yet, despite our differences I shared many of their life and moral views, we both believe strongly in family bonds and hard work.
The differences are what had made me want to continue to learn and now teach. By getting others to learn about Asian culture people should become more empathetic towards each other, which could help my career goals. Also, it could lead us to working together to solve worldwide problems such as global warming. Mainly I would just want others to experience the same fascination and love that I feel for Asian culture and to make clear some stereotypes that people and myself might have.
