I plan on majoring in biochemistry. It is still a decision I am thinking about, but it is what I am leading towards. Biochemistry is a hard major and not one that everyone majors in. I was hesitant at first and I still am but I believe that with hard work and perseverance nothing is too hard or impossible. I have made it a habit to do things that make me scared. A quote that I live by is "the only time you are actually growing is when you're uncomfortable." This quote has made me do many things that I fear and has helped me overcome my challenges. I am willing to take biochemistry, knowing that it is hard, and to give my full best in order to succeed.
Another reason I want to do biochemistry is because science is my strongest subject. When it comes to science I can remember that subject very well. It surprises me how well I can remember the biology I learned freshman year over zoom, 3 years ago. While chemistry isn't my favorite subject, I am willing to give it another try and hopefully make it interesting for me. However, biology is my favorite subject. I like to learn about how the human body works and genetics and diseases. It’s quite funny to me that a subject that I like and a subject that I sorta despise are tied together to form biochemistry. And out of all the science majors I could have potentially chosen I am choosing biochemistry.
Additionally, I want to become a doctor and knowing I need a major in sciences like biology, biochemistry is the best option. Many people go for biology as their major since it is the easier route but I want to take the harder root and challenge myself. By going for biochemistry there will be a higher chance I will be accepted into colleges and I will stand out from most students. While I am scared that biochemistry will be tough and definitely more than challenging, I hope that my fear is only temporary.
