My Dream Plan by Nathan - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

James Marsters, once said something that stood with me for some time now, “Gardens are tended not just watched, should a gardener not pluck the weeds?” When I first heard this, I did not give it much thought, but as I began to investigate the meaning of the words I began to understand them. The way I interpret this is the stability of dreams in your mind. As you grow up you in life you have many dreams you want to follow as such some are more obtainable then others. While I was a younger kid I had always dreamed of being able to fly not in a plane rather with my own body, and as the years passed I knew that would be very unlikely, so I decided to go for the next best thing; being a pilot.
In college I plan to pursue my degree in aerospace engineering, in fact I want to even go for a doctorate’s degree. The main reason for this is the rarity in the title. I know it is a very challenging degree to go for, so I must push myself. As far as I can tell there are no Ph.D. holders in my family that I know of so being the first would be very special to me.
After doing some research into the field I found that aerospace engineering goes further then just piloting. It actual has two different sub-degrees that come from it, Aeronautical engineering which focuses on aircraft near the surface of the earth, and Astronautical engineering which focuses on space craft that go into orbit around bodies in our solar system.
To go farther into my goal, I have started taking higher math classes. Being able to know not only how to calculate delta V but understand how each variable plays a roll in the performance of the crafts I will be working on in the future is very beneficial. In college I plan to do the same pushing my science and Math skills even higher then what they are now.
