Manage Your Time Wisely by Nathan - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Manage your time. Students who have good time management skills will be more organized and successful in their studies as well as are able to set and achieve goals. Success in college depends on how well you proactively balance the main priority of school, along with everything else you do. Beyond just going to class and homework there are many competing interests and distractions in college, making it ever more important that the use of your time is somewhat planned out.
Creating a schedule that includes time in class and study time, as well as outside commitments such as work, exercise and sleep will help organize and manage your time and create a routine. Your routine will in turn help you develop good study habits and reduce any stress caused by all of those competing interests. A schedule will also help you realize your priorities, what you must do versus what you would like to do, in order to set and achieve goals.
As you prioritize what needs to get done, break down the larger tasks you have into small attainable goals. Use your schedule and plot out time each day or week in order to complete tasks. For example, if there is a large novel to read and a paper due by the end of the month schedule time each day to read a chapter and begin writing your paper concurrently. This will allow you to proactively complete tasks and will make it feel less overwhelming.
Managing your time well in college means that you must organize all of your competing academic and social interests in a way that allows you to set and achieve goals. Success will happen for those students who are organized and have created a schedule and a routine; empowering them to be responsible for their own success in college.
