The Youth Organization of a Lifetime by Nate - December 2019 Scholarship Essay
Over the past four years, I have been a prominent member of B’nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO), a group where I learned to respect and help others. Through this organization, I participate in a wide range of community service events that have introduced me to a lifestyle of giving back. These include Project HOPE, where I helped fundraise money for the Interfaith Nutrition Network and J-Serve, an event where I packaged food and personally delivered it to families on Long Island in need of a holiday meal.
I have also had the privilege of working on an individual level with other teens. As the current Regional Secretary/Treasurer, I currently work with my chapter counterparts to ensure that they are in a positive state of mind and are properly doing their job. I advise these chapter leaders, and discuss important topics with them including ways to better their fundraising, communication, and organizational skills. Just this week, I promoted a new initiative called Giving BBYO Day, where alumni and family were encouraged to donate to BBYO so that quality programming can continue next year. My counterparts and I raised over $35,000 for our region, and we could not be more proud of this accomplishment!
Although my tenure at BBYO ends next year, my desire to assist those in need will remain. In college, one of my priorities is to join community service groups where I can help provide for the public well-being. During my time with BBYO, I became inspired to help my peers. I have developed a wide array of skills that I will take with me as I embark on my higher education.
