A Leap of Faith – The Path to a Creative Future by Natavia - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
Many opportunities are available for people in the world. We can choose what job to work at straight out of high school, decide to go to a vocational school or attend a college or university. Whatever the case may be, we all end up pursuing a path that was meant for us. I for one never intended to be where I am right now. However, it was through mindful opportunities and taking a leap of faith which aided in the outcomes presented before me.
For a long time, I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life. However, I did know that I wanted to make the best of it, and I knew I wanted to succeed in whatever it was I was doing. I’ve never been one for words, spoken at least, and could never seem to break out of my introverted shell. I was always quiet, kept to myself, and never liked speaking in front of others. That is until I decided to take a leap of faith.
I joined a club and while residing in this club, I encountered one of my biggest challenges which was speaking in front of others. I had to present presentations for a competition in front of multiple judges. I didn’t want to at first because I had previously presented in front of people, and I dreaded every moment. However, this time was different, for a few reasons. One, I was presenting on a topic that was actually interesting to me which was Interior Design. Two, I wanted to succeed in everything I did, and lastly, I decided that it was time to take a risk.
I knew that if I didn’t take this opportunity, I would continue to reside in my introverted shell and I would be missing out on something that was bigger than me. So, I got in front of those judges with as much confidence as I could possibly range…and failed miserably – or so I thought. Turns out I did exceptionally well and had advanced to the next round. By the end of my senior year, I had presented in front of judges a total of seven times, and with each time I presented, a spark of joy was lit inside me until I was a radiating source of energy.
It didn’t happen overnight, however, from that moment on, I decided to use that energy and excitement to fuel my passion for pursuing interior design in higher education. I want to take what I had experienced and continue to use it as inspiration to learn and grow within this field. As well as to help others seek out their creative dreams and visions. It was that decision to take a leap of faith that has led me to opportunities that I could not have even imagined and because of that, I will do my very best to make the most of it.
