Proving by Natalie - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
“And in third place Natalie Kukovich.” I beamed happily as I walked up from my spot in the line and claimed my plaque. I could hear the screams of my FBLA chapter from across the arena as I walked back. At that moment I knew that I was going to work the next three years of high school to work in business.
Every single day in my computer applications class I spent doing quizlets and practice tests for my FBLA event. Working towards my goal of attending nationals. At the regional event I got second place and was going to states. At states I made it into the top fifteen for my event and got to do a presentation. When I did my event and then was standing on the stage at the closing ceremony waiting to see if I would become the youngest person, grade wise, my chapter has sent to the National Conference. That was when I knew I was going to major in Business.
My specialty interest in business came when I went to my first Pittsburgh Penguins game in October of 2023, I decided I wanted to work in the sports business industry. Every bit of research I have done from that point forward has shown me that I will need to work harder than a man and harder than a normal business career. It was a slightly harsh realization, but determination has been persevering. Persevering in the way that I want to prove that I don’t just watch hockey for hot men. Proving that I have the guts to do it. Work in sports when I don’t play a sport, just marching band and running for fun. Proving myself to people who don’t like me. My dream is to work for my local NHL team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, but one cannot be too picky. I want a career that does not pay as well but can make me feel a way that no amount of money can.
My experiences in FBLA and watching the Pittsburgh Penguins play has fostered my interest and desire to go into sports business. A desire to prove myself has also been fostered. These have been fostered among leadership and business skills but have put themselves center stage.
