Embrace the Fall by Natalie - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
Think outside of the box, because it can grow stuffy.
As a child, a box had the potential of being so many things. With the help of my doting older brother and some trusty art supplies, we had the ability to turn the cardboard flaps into almost anything. The box was a welcomed familiar. Whether my imagination decided on a race car with shiny decals, a computer with smudged letter keys, or, if the box was big enough, a house with vivid shutters, I always found myself giddy with excitement.
Now that I am older and in the midst of my junior year, I have learned to adapt and embrace new aspects of life. The box that once fostered the development of my imagination now feels constricting; a safety net I no longer need. I desperately want to embrace the fall and experience all parts of life. I know that I cannot cling to the memories housed within the cardboard if I wish to make that dream a reality. A fresh perspective is necessary as I find out just exactly who I am. Creativity flows through my veins, and I want to see periwinkle spread across the expanse of a sky as I take on the world with a sense of ingenuity.
Besides, a box can only be so many things.
