A Journey to Human Physiology by Naseeb - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

Selecting a major is a difficult decision, one that involves your personal experiences, and career aspirations. For me, the path to choosing Human Physiology as my major has been shaped by my experiences, each playing a role in shaping my journey toward becoming an Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist.

Growing up, I was deeply involved in the world of sports. From the soccer fields starting at age 6, I found joy in athletic competition. As a student athlete, I not only experienced the physical demands of training and competition but also understood the importance of conditioning and injury prevention. These experiences increased my curiosity about the human body and its physical capabilities.

My journey really began when I became a student athletic trainer during senior year of high school. Working closely with athletes and trainers, I gained invaluable insights into the field of physical therapy and athletic training. From taping ankles to administering first aid, I discovered the impact that Athletic Trainers have on athlete performance and well-being. Also, watching the athletic trainers save Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin's life on the football field, made me realize the importance of this profession. These experiences helped solidify my passion for athletic training and realize a deep sense of responsibility to help athletes perform at their best while minimizing injury.

Outside of the soccer pitch, my commitment to serving others led me to volunteer at a local hospital. I was there to help the nurses with patient care, filing paperwork, and organizing/stocking supplies. I also adjusted to working in a high speed environment and learned how to communicate in a professional setting.

The decision to major in Human Physiology was a result of my passion for sports, interest in the human body, and desire to help people. Through coursework in physiology, I hope to develop an understanding of the body's physiological processes and their function in athletic performance and rehabilitation.

Moreover, my experiences as a student athletic trainer and hospital volunteer have provided me with invaluable practical skills and insights that will serve as a solid foundation for my future career. Whether it's conducting injury assessments on the field or designing personalized exercise programs in a clinical setting, I am eager to help individuals achieve their optimal physical health and performance.

My journey toward selecting Human Physiology as my major has been shaped by personal experiences, academic interests, and professional aspirations. From my early days as a student athlete to student athletic trainer, each experience has contributed to my growth and development as a future athletic trainer or physical therapist. With a love for sports and a genuine passion for helping others, I am confident that my chosen path will allow me to make a meaningful impact in the field of athletic training and physical therapy.
