Third Language "English" by Narik - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
I started kindergarten in New York knowing the languages Arabic and Nuer and very little English. So, that made my transition from home to school quite difficult. Although I was five years old, I still remember the times I spent crying in my kindergarten teacher’s rocking chair, just pouring crying because none of what she was teaching made sense to me. Over the years I've overcome this obstacle and English is now one of my favorite subjects at school. Throughout high school I have learned most from my English classes, learning how important it is to organize writing and always to proofread. As a high school senior, these skills are now helping my process of applying for college go smoothly.
My favorite kind of writing is personal narrative because it is a chance to really dig deep inside and elaborate about yourself. This type of writing as really help me grow as a student. It has helped me analyze the type of person I am and search for the careers that may relate to the type of person I am. Freshman year, when asked, “What career do you want to pursue once in college”, my answer was always I do not know. Now as a senior when asked this question my answer is, “Pharmacist!”
