Time Management as a Computer Student by Namira - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

During my freshmen year, I got interested in computer science and game development because my sister was a gaming fanatic. I would find the graphics of video games, like Super Mario Galaxy and the Pokemon franchise, impressive and wanted to create something as so. However, I knew it would be difficult to get into the computer science field without any exposure. Throughout my high school years, I took an abundance of computer science college courses as my school never offered much at the time. They were undeniably challenging, but, I gained meaningful knowledge and met talented professors as well. The welcoming nature I felt, being a high school student, increased my interest in the field.

This upcoming academic year will be my last year to fully explore computer science career paths before college, and I plan to give computer design courses a try. These courses were the primary vision I had for myself as a freshman and I want to excel yet enjoy my interest. Since I have had the opportunity to pursue computer design courses, I am keeping high expectations for my skills. Although doing great in class and passing with an A means a lot, maintaining a healthy work ethic is important to me, since much of my time is on computers. I do not want to feel like my interests are a burden on me mentally and physically. Time management and doing good in class are a balance that needs to be applied together, as a result, my academic goal is to establish a healthy balance this upcoming year.
