I would start a nonprofit organization for the aspiring medical professionals of the world. This organization would provide money to help support and finance people who dream of becoming doctors, physician assistants, nurses, and all other sorts of professions. Healthcare is currently one of the quickest growing fields in regards to job growth, but there’s one issue that prevents millions from entering the area: the cost.
Personally, I plan on becoming an Emergency Physician in order to have a direct impact on people, save lives, and love my job. However, medical school is extremely expensive - everyone knows that. It’s so expensive to the point that doctors have one of the highest suicide rates out of all professions, mainly due to the absurd amounts of debts physicians are in after graduating medical school.
How can people be inspired to help others and save lives if they need to go into half a million dollars in debt to do so? When New York University became famous for its medical school - which covers full tuition for each and every one of its students - the world was shocked. At what point do we need to notice that medical school’s price tag is preventing millions of motivated, intelligent, and passionate young minds from ever having an impact on people’s lives?
Becoming a doctor isn’t just a luxury for the wealthy, it’s for those who have the will and dreams to do so - some help to finance that dream would make all the difference.
