How Will I Use a $10,000 Grant to Positively Impact My Hometown? by Nadra - May 2019 Scholarship Essay

In today's modern times, more young adults are attending college that the last several decades. Many young adults between the ages of 18 through 30 are working hard to receive the education that they deserve and should gain so that they will have have something to fall back on when they are older. As more people attend college, the cost for being a college student has greatly increased. But there are many options that are given to us to help pay for college, such as grants. Grants are non-refundable, and are usually given by the government or a corporation. Using a grant to pay for college would be such a great blessing. But sometimes, some people are offered a lot of money in grants, like almost $10,000. There are some out there who would not even use that money for college or other purposes. If I was offered a $10,000 grant and did not have to use it to pay for college, I would consider using the money by giving back to my community because there are many people out there who deserve and need more than I do.
Almost everywhere that I go, I see the homeless who either live on the streets, in unpleasant homes, or in shelters. I also hear about and see many families who also are in these same conditions and the parents struggle to provide for their children. Whenever I see or hear about these situations, it makes me feel disappointed that I just live comfortably and not consider doing all that I can do to give back to others. If I was offered a $10,000 grant, I would use the money to give to the homeless and families in need. I could easily just give each person that I see a handful of money, but there is more that I could do to actually show others that I care and that I am not a person who just walks on by so casually. I would visit my local shelters, convince my friends and family to attend, and we would use the money to buy new furniture, food, and clothes for the shelter so that everyone who is there can be there comfortably. I would also buy a homeless person or family a meal from any restaurant of their choice, buy them some clothes, and would give them some extra money so that they can be happy, knowing that they were blessed to have someone try to help them, and I would feel good knowing that I helped and considered someone else in need instead of myself because I believe that we should all show love to everyone, no matter what because love can make any situation better.
Having a $10,000 grant would be very shocking to me. But I was to use the money to give back to others, that would be better than using that much money for anything else because it is important that we should consider others more often than ourselves. There are many people out there who are less fortunate than me, and I should make a difference in their lives by showing them love and kindness.
