Finding Me by Nadia - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
As early as I can remember I had an intense curiosity about science. In kindergarten, I wanted to create potions. I asked my mom to purchase products for me to concoct cures for people. I later became fascinated with becoming a marine biologist…veterinarian…followed by an ecologist. I do not have it all figured out, but I am determined to find my niche in science. Currently, I plan to major in environmental studies or ecology. Both are broad fields of study, but I wish to take my acquired knowledge and apply it to the real world by increasing clean energy worldwide. Ultimately, having a career in science is not the end, but improving the world is my end-goal. I am not sure if that will take ten years or not but as long as I learn, grow and give of myself to always be my best, I will be accomplished.
Learning will never cease for me. Once I complete my degrees I plan to have a career where I improve upon and expand the number of carbon sinks globally. Expanding natural forests and habitats is fundamental in decreasing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere caused by wastage from energy companies. I will partner with energy companies to provide easily adoptable business practices they can implement to become energy-efficient. Most importantly I will have a youth outreach program to educate the youth about the importance of energy efficiency so they can be better citizens of the Earth and to the Earth. If everyone was knowledgeable about energy efficiency, the world could be healthier and a more economically stable place.
Improving the world sounds lofty but I am passionate and ambitious about working with experts to create effective interventions that can be used across cultures and societies, in America and abroad to combat the destruction of our most precious resource - Earth. As I find myself, the next ten years will be hard work and lots of trial and error. I can’t tell you the exact degrees and titles I will hold, but once I find my niche in science, I have no doubt that I will work hard to create global energy efficiency and improve the world.
