Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by N'Ayriah - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
If I could have dinner with any historical figure it would most definitely be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I would love to sit across the table from the man who fought to free his race. He risked everything in his life to fight for freedom and equality. He had a dream and he was determined to make sure his dream became a reality. Dr. King to me is by far the one I would devote all of my time to just to have one conversation with him. I think that just being in the same room as him would change my perspective on life. Knowing that he died just for me to be able to live in the world I do today.
Dr. King was the most iconic man of his life time. He was passionate, determined, a great leader, a God-fearing man, a man who put God’s vision ahead of his own no matter the price. With the help of a few other people like Malcom X, and Abraham Lincoln they made it possible for African Americans to have the same rights and laws as Caucasians. In the eyes of those three men we were all created equal. I would ask Dr. King three question that have always been on my heart and my mind.
1.) Was it hard always having to fear for your life every second of the day?
2.) Who inspired you to stand up for what you believe in?
3.) Was this the plan for the United States he saw?
I personally believe Dr. King is proud and disappoint in how the world turned out. Yes, there are no more slaves and everyone is free, but the amount of racism we still see today is unbelievable. I would read Dr. King the crime rate for black on black crime, white on white crime, and white on black crime. I would bring up the fact that I too have a dream; I too have a dream and my dream is based off of the roots and principles from his dream.
