Education: Power that enhances lives by Myles - February 2014 Scholarship Essay
President of South Africa Nelson Mandela stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world!" This inspirational quote influenced my decision in achieving a Masters Degree in Child Development.
Hearing the creative and imaginative ideas that children say can automatically turn any negative emotion into a smile. Words cannot explain the importance in shaping and developing children’s lives. The true beauty in life is watching children develop and transition from solitary play to cooperative play. It is fascinating to see children learn how to express their emotions and find alternative, friendly solutions with their peers. Teaching children how to communicate and share a common goal with their peers, parents, and teachers are necessities to change the world.
Currently, I am a first year student at San Diego State University and received a 4.00 GPA. While achieving this high GPA, I also interned at Alcott Infant and Toddler Developmental Program. After I complete my Masters degree, I will be roughly $35,000 in debt. Even though my degree focuses on enhancing children’s future, the medium salary is tremendously low. If I received this scholarship, majority of it will go towards the TEFL certificate, which will enhance my probability of teaching English in Thailand. It has always been a goal of mine to teach children in a foreign country. These children desperately need our help, and I would be an excellent candidate in providing their needs. This scholarship will be used for a magnificent cause. Please help me achieve my goals in progressing our future generations. Thanks for your time and consideration.
