Passion Encourages Success by Mylah - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

Having a passion for education is significant to me because, without passion, it is difficult for one to be committed to their career. Doing what you love allows you to be more successful than if you were doing something purely for financial gain. Without having a passion for education, a teacher's performance could be hindered where they may not receive the financial gain that they expected. This could cause mental distress as they do not feel accomplished or they feel frustrated with their abilities. Additionally, a lack of passion results in a lack of skill and knowledge development as well as personal development.
For students, having a teacher that is not passionate about their career can be detrimental. It is harder for a teacher to motivate and inspire their students if they are not committed themselves. This could hinder the development of students. Without the students' interest, it would be more difficult for the teacher to persuade students to do their assignments. This affects the quality of the education that the students are receiving which can cause long-term problems. For example, if a math teacher does not have a passion for math, their performance in teaching that subject would be affected. They would spend less time preparing lessons and studying the material before giving it to the students. This would cause the students to miss out on important information that would help them on their ACT or final exams. Without having this necessary knowledge, students would have fewer opportunities for college and future careers. In addition, they may not discover their passion for the subject.
Finally, without a passion for education, it is difficult for a teacher to build a relationship with their students. Without this bond, there is less respect and trust as well as less commitment to assignments on the part of the student. In addition, the student receives less development in communication skills as they neither ask questions about the material nor contribute in class discussions. This negatively affects both the teacher and the student as the student is not receiving the knowledge they need and the students' grades reflect poorly on the teacher. Without passion, a teacher could cause a lack in the development of future entrepreneurs, businesses, and careers as students will receive less knowledge and opportunities.
