The Future is Near by Mykenzi - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

Through the midst of the Covid 19 Pandemic I spent half of my freshman year online, my sophomore year completely virtual, and my junior year finally back at school but with masks and social distancing. Finally, this year, my senior year, I am finally able to enjoy a normal school year. Seeing that this is my last year in highschool there are so many things that I want to accomplish this year like to continue to make all A’s, maintain my rank in the 3% percentile of my class, and being active in clubs and programs within my school. However, as a young African American female attending Boca Ciega High School in the Medical Magnet program. One major academic goal that I have is to receive my Electrocardiograph Technician and Emergency Medical Technician Certifications . I am currently taking my EKG class on campus and my dual enrollment EMT class off campus at a local college. These two classes are preparing me for my future in the medical field. In my EKG class I will be able to learn how to perform a variety of different tests on the lungs and hearts of patients. While in my EMT class, I will learn how to respond quickly to trauma patients in life threatening and dangerous situations. As well as provide sufficient care in a proper and timely manner. Once I complete these two year long courses and pass the examinations at the end of the year I will truly be able to say that I accomplished my goal. Personally, I feel that receiving these two certifications will help me advance in creating positive change within my community. This is because through my Emergency Medical Technician Certification I will be able to use the skills I learned to provide care to victims of traumatic incidents, minor injuries, illnesses, or life-threatening diseases. Furthermore, this will help me to become a helping hand in lowering and reducing the amount of deaths within my community and outside my community as well. Next, with the use of my Electrocardiograph Technician Certification I will be able to learn how to analyze one’s heart through their heart’s electrical activity to discover important findings to help maintain their health and regularity of the heart.
Accomplishing this academic goal is so very important to me as this is truly a dream of mine. This is because I have always wanted to make an impact and become a role model for others to look up to. As well as help to increase the number of more young people working within the healthcare field. Through my academic goal of receiving my Electrocardiograph Technician and Emergency Medical Technician Certifications I will also be able to gain knowledgeable information to help me pursue my dreams of becoming one of the few African American female Anesthesiologists. Since I was young, I knew that I just wanted to be a doctor. However, as I grew up and continued through school I knew that I had the ultimate desire to be an Anesthesiologist. From personally witnessing and seeing the deaths of closed loved ones in my family I knew had to do something to prevent others from experiencing the same thing. Not only will receiving the certifications help me but it will also help other young people who are just like me. Not too often do we see many female EMTs or EKG Technicians or even African American EMTs or EKG Technicians. This why I want to be able to pave a way to change that and promote more females and members of the African American community to be apart of the healthcare field not only as an EMT or EKG Technician but as an RN, surgeon, dentist, physical therapist, and many more careers within the healthcare field. I want to be the change and help others reach their goals and tap into their potential. But first it starts with me making sure that I accomplish my goal this year of receiving my Emergency Medical Technician and Electrocardiograph Technician certifications.
