Conquering A Transition by Mya - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

In the spring of this year, I graduated high school, and I am currently enrolled to start as a freshman in college this fall at a university that’s 1,100 miles away from a place I’ve called home my whole life. While I’ve spent countless hours discussing, researching, and dreaming about different career paths I haven’t spent much time strategizing, organizing, or focusing on how I am going to accomplish the transition from being a high school student with a good support system to a college student living on my own. I know that I am facing many changes as I enter this new chapter in life; therefore, my next big education goal will focus on learning how to be successful as a freshman in college. I believe by focusing on developing good habits and having a successful freshman year that I will set myself up for success in graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 4 years. One of the ways I am going to accomplish the large goal of graduation is by accomplishing smaller goals along the way. For my freshman year, I am enrolling in an optional class that helps guides first generation college students. I will also be using a trusted time management system with planning out projects, test, and deadlines in advance in my planner. I am hoping to develop strong bonds with classmates to help with learning outside of the classroom as well. This upcoming year I am not striving for perfection, although all As would be nice, but I am looking to develop systems that work for me that help me learn in a healthy environment and be successful in my freshman year.
