The Three Course Meal by Mya - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

The President of the United States is one who leads for example, sets the precedent for the era of their new term, and has the authority to enforce laws, treaties, and court rulings. Whether they are currently living or not, the President’s of the United States have done their best to optimize the potential of a better America and the 44th POTUS, Barack Obama, has done so. If I could sit in the State Dining Room of the White House over a three course meal with Barack Obama, I would, to ask insightful questions.

As the White House servers gracefully bring out the soup of the day on a silver platter, they place it on the crisp white tablecloth. With one bowl each in front of Barack and I, we each start sipping on the soup with satisfaction. I would start the beginning of our conversation with asking him about the personal decisions he made when deciding to launch his campaign and the factors he took into consideration in 2008. I would ask how the election process ,in his first term, affected him morally and emotionally. Then I would ask how all of the travelling affected his family, especially, with his young daughters growing up. While hearing about some of the building blocks that are responsible for building who he is today, the second and main course would be brought out by the servers.

This complex main course replaces the decadent soup we would have previously had and symbolizes the chapter in his life between his first and second chapter. From being just as excited for this next entree as I would be to ask Barack about how he would describe his first term, this is a major part of this experience. As I take sips of my water I can imagine a plethora of questions coming to my mind at once. First question would be to describe his first term in three words. I would ask what he would have done differently and what bills he wished got passed before the end of his four years. I would also ask who or what inspired him to run for his second term and if the process was any easier when campaigning, considering he had done it before. As our stomachs would slowly get fuller, we would make room for the final course: dessert.

The White House servers then would bring out the final and sweetest course for us to eat together in celebration of the current pleasant discussion. This would be the perfect opportunity for me to ask if Barack ending his second term was bitter or sweet and if either, why is that?. I would ask him how he thinks he grew as a man since he first step foot in the Oval Office and how accomplished he feels. I would ask if he completed his initial agenda and what he plans to do in the future. Lastly, I would ask about his family and if his position as POTUS make their relationship stronger or weaker?. Then Barack Obama and I would firmly shake hands, part ways and leave the State Dining Room more knowledgeable people.

By me sitting down with Barack Obama for a three course meal, I would become more enlightened on his perspective as a former President of the United States. I would be deeply grateful for the opportunity to have happened and be inspired to enlarge my aspirations in life. Whether one is meant to serve others in the classroom or a country, we all are determined to better ourselves for us and those around you.
