Describe a challenge you faced and how it helped shape who you are today. by Munkhtushig - April 2026 Scholarship Essay

I used to think that doing well in school just meant being naturally smart or finishing assignments quickly. I always thought that if I could get things done fast and still get grades I was doing everything right with my school work. But I eventually realized that school is not really about speed or just intelligence school is about how you handle stress and pressure and responsibility when everything starts coming at you at once and that is a big part of school.

There was a time when I honestly felt pretty overwhelmed with school. I had classes all giving out projects and homework and exams around the same time and that was a lot to handle. At first I kept telling myself I could handle it. I would wait until the last minute to do everything for school. But that just made things worse for me I was stressed all the time tired all the time. My grades started dropping, which made me even more frustrated with myself and my school work.

After a while I realized that the way I was doing things just wasn’t working anymore for my school work. I couldn’t keep going like that and expect results with my school work I needed to change something even if it was just small steps at first with my school work.

So I started trying to be more organized with my school work. I began writing plans for what I needed to do each day for school. Of trying to finish everything in one sitting for school I broke assignments into smaller parts for my school work. Even if I only did a bit at a time for my school work it still helped a lot more than doing nothing until the last second for school and that was a big help. Slowly things started to feel less overwhelming with my school work.

What surprised me was that this didn’t just help me in school. It changed how I think in general about my school work and other things. I started to understand that improvement takes time. That is something that applies to my school work and other areas of my life. You don’t fix everything in one day and that’s okay I learned that with my school work. I also stopped seeing mistakes as something instead I started seeing them as part of learning and figuring things out with my school work.

Now I still get stressed sometimes with my school work. I handle it a lot differently now. I don’t panic like I used to when I had a lot of school work I pause, make a plan. Just focus on one thing at a time with my school work. This experience really taught me how to stay calm under pressure. That is something that I can use with my school work and other things. More than anything it showed me that success isn’t about being perfect. It’s about not giving up and learning how to keep improving even when things are hard, with my school work.
