resilience and adaptability by Munir - July 2024 Scholarship Essay

Resilience and Adaptability

This year 2024, the most valuable lesson that has resonated with me is the core value of adaptability and resilience. To explain by resilience I mean being strong before, during, and after a challenge, and when I say adaptability I mean being able to change and stay up to date. you may be wondering why you have to be strong/resilient before a challenge. Well, it is because if you aren't strong before a challenge you won't be able to handle the challenge, and the challenge will handle you! This lesson has impacted me tremendously and I will tell you how.

Being resilient and being able to adapt will impact me moving forward because I will always think when I do something and be strong while im doing it and I will always adapt and change to be ahead and not behind.

Like other years, this year had a series of unexpected twists and turns. An experience I had where I had to be resilient was a custody case. I would have to be strong even though I would be very weak inside due to fighting and not being able to get what I want. This experience highlighted the importance of being adaptable because I would have to try to be calm and be able to think straight no matter where I was.

Moreover, resilience became the foundation of my journey this year. It's not simply about handling difficulties but actively bouncing back stronger from setbacks. I faced moments of doubt and setbacks, yet each setback became an opportunity to develop resilience to learn from failures, recalibrate goals, and forge ahead with renewed determination.

One particular instance stands out: When I had a learning day at work. To explain in detail I was sampling in Publix where I work and I was drinking, eating, and using my phone while working. My mood was off that day but I realized I have to be strong and focus on the good. Ever since then, I realized I should ask before doing things. Now that I know these rules I adapted to them by making sure I already ate, only sip water, and not using my phone at all. This lesson will impact me moving forward not just in work but in life entirely. I will think more on my feet and overall be more sharp and intelligent.

Both these teachings in adaptability and resilience will profoundly influence my approach to both professional work and personal growth. In my job, I aim to remain agile and open-minded, understanding change as an opportunity rather than a setback. I will regularly explore diverse perspectives, continue to learn new skills, and stay up to date with emerging trends. By doing so, I aim to position myself not just to survive but to thrive in dynamic and competitive environments.

In conclusion, the teaching of adaptability and resilience that I learned this year is not just a personal lesson but a leading principle for navigating an increasingly complex world. It emphasizes the importance of flexibility, perseverance, and optimism in overcoming obstacles and using opportunities. Now when I go to work I am always adaptive and resilient to avoid what happened last time.
