Fear by Muna - July 2023 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my journey of seeking knowledge, my biggest fear I would say was failure. The fear of not getting my work done, of failing my exams, not meeting my parents expectations, and disappointing myself and those who love me and want to see me do something in this life. This fear killed me and made every assignment, every test, every project a consuming battle.

As time went by, I realized that this fear that was installed in me was not inherently negative. It pushed me to do better, work harder, to achieve my goals, to get myself back up when I felt like giving up. I used this fear as fuel in my path of knowledge.

I set a high standards for myself to get my work done on time, to finish my studies, to get on top of all my assignments, to get good grades in my exams and courses. I learned the value of this determination, understanding that setbacks were opportunities for growth and learning. Failure became less intimidating as I embraced it as push towards success.

This fear taught me to get back up at my lowest times, that I have a reason to fight this battle, to bounce back up from disappointments, to see what is there to come. I learned to develop problem-solving learning skills, finding solutions to my problems to overcome hard obstacles.

Fundamentally, my fear of failure shaped me into a more self-motivated and hard working individual. It gives me a passion to keep going after what I am fighting for. While the fear is still there, I use it as motivation. My fear serves as a constant reminder of my potential and fuels my relentless pursuit of excellence.
