Visionary by Morgon - June 2023 Scholarship Essay

“The difference between a dreamer and a visionary is that a dreamer has his eyes closed and a visionary has his eyes open” is a quote from none other than Martin Luther King Jr. A visionary is just what it sounds like; someone who can envision what they see the world being like in the future. Oftentimes, these visions portray a goal or theme in the future. These visions can give hope, motivation, and direction to someone who wants to be a part of something larger than just themselves. Although I wouldn't claim to be so impactful as Martin Luther King Jr, I, just as everyone should, will strive to impact my surroundings and those around me in a positive way. As it happens, I can see my goals and what I would like my life to look like in 10 years from now.
Some of these goals are most likely held by everyone reading this essay. Goals like financial stability, an established family, and a good social life. All of these goals can be accomplished in a multitude of different ways, but the method of choice for myself will be my education, a vision, and likely blood sweat and tears.
With the high school education that I have already received, I will have a baseline knowledge established for my college education. With these basics I will be able to expand my knowledge in a more specific field, engineering. College education will be where the real magic happens. Classes like marketing, economics, and finance can establish a finer knowledge of money and how to manage it. The major classes I will be enrolled in will be for engineering, and once I have earned my major, I will be able to land a job. One common response from engineers when asked about their degree and college experience is that it is challenging to accomplish. Although engineering is not the easiest path, I am hoping that I can learn problem solving skills and expand my ability to "push myself" to accomplish a goal.
Education is not limited to school grounds, and my education did not start with and will not end with college. Having already begun teaching myself skills like marketing, sales, and creating passive income, I will be able to continue learning and put these skills into practice. With the help of all this education my vision will become reality.
A large part of the vision that I have is to be able to take care of my family and help people to be able to better take care of themselves. In short, my education will prepare me for my career field, land me a job, teach me to be independent, and teach me to push myself to accomplish my goals and experience my vision. In 10 years from now I will have a college education in engineering, and once I have earned enough money and gained enough knowledge, I will have started my own business using my degree. All of this will be a result of my education.
