Where I See Myself In Ten Years by Morgan - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

There are expectations I have set for myself once I reach certain ages. For example, when I was in elementary school I set the expectation of my older self to attend college as soon as I graduate high school. I have slowly made that expectation into a reality by applying to many colleges and finding one that fits me. I have applied and been accepted to ten different universities and I chose Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I was accepted into their Honors Scholars Program. My major areas of interest have changed throughout the years from wanting to be a princess rock star in kindergarten to wanting to try psychology in middle school. My current goal is to either be a technical writer because I enjoy writing essays or be an accountant because I am good with numbers and pay attention to details. I want to build connections with students and professors that will help me down the road.

What about after college? I have built in my mind an image of who I want to be ten years from now. After travelling a little, I would like to settle down in a city different from my current one. I want to get married around this time and hopefully buy a house. I see myself being successful in whatever field I choose to pursue. Living comfortably without worrying about the cost of my car breaking down or if I have enough money to pay the monthly bills is very important to me because that is not a luxury my family has now.

I want to be so successful that other people come to me for guidance. I want people to trust in my abilities. One day my dad showed me an inspiring quote one day and I have made it my mission to achieve this level of success: “What is success? To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch Or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson.

My education will help me achieve my goals. I will explore classes that are related to English and Accounting and choose my major by the end of my freshman year of college. After choosing my major and completing my degree, my connections from college will help me find a job. My education will help me uphold a stable job where I can be financially independent and care for a family later in life. This education will help me fulfill the quote that inspired me to achieve success.
