Why Else? by Morgan - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
To many people, college is seen as a big waste of time and money. To others, it's seen as necessary; how else will you find a good-paying job? How else will you become successful? The question for some may even be "Why wouldn't I go?". While these questions seem self-explanatory, the answers aren't. College isn't for everyone, which is a phrase I hear a lot growing up and in high school. I, however, have an answer that contradicts mine, as well as others', current high schools.
High school isn't a place of prosperity for most typical teenagers. You're in a classroom for 8 hours a day learning information that you either don't find useful or really unnecessary. I myself have felt this way countless times. I don't think that high schools are supplied with the correct curriculum or materials to help kids become interested in learning about future careers when little is available to help them find it. I want to learn about what I want at my own will. I want to get a proper education in something I find interesting and exhilarating; something that gives me a purpose. Why else go to college other than that reason alone?
