Fitness Education as an Elective by Morgan - February 2022 Scholarship Essay

The elective I would design would be called Fitness Education. I am passionate about exercise and fitness. I believe this will open up new opportunities and experiences for students to learn about exercise, fitness, and health principles. It is significant to recognize the benefits on the body of staying fit. My grandparents have been an influence throughout my life. They are now in their upper nineties and still act like they are in their seventies. They have always been healthy and stayed fit, which makes me want to be like them and show others that staying in shape can have beneficial effects in the long run.

By taking this elective, students would have the opportunity to learn new exercises and ways to keep fit. Nutrition is also crucial to staying healthy, and many people have no idea the cautions of eating unhealthily every day. My dad has always made us focus on eating right. We don’t buy foods with unhealthy ingredients and we often buy organic. Additionally, students can learn healthy ways to eat while taking this elective. This elective could potentially have a positive outcome and could even decrease eating disorders and insecurities about the body.

Along with my family’s influence, I continue to run cross country and track in school because it motivates me to be active. Students get the chance to do a sport, however many get anxious about not being with people they know or get nervous and competing. With this elective, they can recognize that they are more likely to be fit in the long run by staying active in a safe environment where they can get fitness tips and activeness. This elective will clarify that exercising and staying fit at a young age will benefit many as you get older. I never had a class like doing workouts and learning about the health side of your body. I believe this would be a fun part of the day to look forward to. Yes, physical education classes exist, but you do not gain insight about how to do exercises correctly and what to do after a workout. This is extremely important in several ways to benefit our fitness and health. This elective can be beneficial to other students who can learn what is best for staying fit.
