First Year of High School by Morgan - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Everyone has been scared for their first day in a new school. The first day of high school may be the scariest. There can be completely new people, teachers, and a totally different environment. Movies have stereotyped high school, as well as middle school, as being very uninviting places. There are scenes of kids getting pushed into lockers and trampled on in the middle of the hallways. In all reality high school isn’t that scary and those things don’t normally happen. So, while in high school the best advice I can give you is to be yourself!

Anyone who is an incoming high school freshman may have difficulty with the way everyone looks at them. You may get awkward looks from different people because of the way you dress or by how smart you are and you feel like you just don’t seem to fit in. There will be different peer groups you will soon be able to find and get along with but don’t ever change who you are because at the end of high school all that matters is if you love who you are and aren’t embarrassed to be yourself.

Whoever you become in the next four years is up to you, but be happy with what you have become. You might have lost friends, gone through ups and downs, or struggled through class but as long as you never lose yourself in the next four years and stay strong you will do great. Just like Marilyn Monroe said, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
