How to Succeed In High School Group Projects by Morgan - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

During my freshman year of high school, I was enrolled in a class that was based around group projects and team building. They would randomly put groups together and give each group an assignment so the students were exposed to working with other people. My goal for each project was to make sure that everyone participated to create the best project in the class. First, I had to figure out everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. Whenever we had to make posters, I would have the group members that were talented artists decorate and figure out the layout of the poster. The rest of the group members would have to do the research. In projects where we had to build something, I would have the group members that were more into science and engineering help create the vision we had for the project and then everyone worked on building. I would make sure that everyone contributed to each project to my best ability. Sometimes it was difficult to get everyone to work together but in the end, we would work everything out and finish the project on time and make it the best that we could in the amount of time that we were given. My groups did well on every project that we were assigned to, and everyone received an "A" for the class. I learned that it is very important to allow individuals to pick tasks that they are good at in order to create team motivation. At least one person needs to step up and be the leader and put together a time line for completion. If you follow these steps, you will succeed in a positive group project.
