The Best Study Method for Me by Morgan - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
Beginning high school I was never really taught how to study or prep for big tests or quizzes. Over these past four years I have tried to aquire my own good study habits to take with me from high school to college.
I have found the app "quizlet" very helpful when learning new vocabulary or definitions for any type of quiz or even test. Taking anatomy my senior year has consisted of a lot of memorizing body parts and bones and things so for a majority of tests I have used this site to help me get a good grade.
I have also found that making my own flash cards or even just writting the work and definition can help my brain retain the information I'm trying to gather into it. This was more of a skill before discovering the quizlet app but still very effective.
One last technique I have found useful throughout high school has been returning to homework and/or notes that I have taken over the past chapter or section learned. In most of my classes I am taking a large portion of note or listening to the teacher talk while trying to write down as much information as possible. I find this very helpful because, when I am taking notes, I try to be as detailed as possible so it makes more sense when I go back to my notes and try to remember it. I have one teacher in particular who likes to every once in a while tell us what specific notes we take will be on our final, so I take every opportunity to star or highlight the information he's referring to.
With these three techniques I have grown to aquire throughout high school I hope I can apply them all to my study habits in college. After all I will be studying for college classes a lot more.
