Dear old... I mean.. younger, me. by Molly - April 2021 Scholarship Essay
The question was, "what advice would I give myself five years ago and why?" Immediately, my brain went to my 13 year old self, going thru one of the most traumatic experiences I will probably ever go through. Let me give you a little bit of backstory since I just dropped that on you like a bomb.
I have a brother who is two years older than me, when I was 13, he was 15 and he was working for one of our family friends that day on a ranch. The day started out pretty normal, my brother left for work and my mom and I went outside to do feed animals and milk the goats. About an hour into chores, my mom gets a call from my dad saying there was an accident with my brother. Long story short, he had gotten ran over by a truck driven by one of the ranch hands. Me being only 13 and basically clueless I was left out of the loop the entire time. I was scared and tired of being lied to saying that there was no updates on how my brother was doing. I later found out they expected him to live no longer than 12 hours, which was absolutely terrifying. I had to meet my parents at the hospital and get ready to say my final goodbyes. Shortly after we arrived a bigger hospital about three hours away requested they brought my brother there by helicopter. After he arrived to the second hospital he thrived. Then about a month later he came home.
The reason for the story is because if I could talk to my 13 year old self again, going through that, I would've told her to pray more and thank the Lord more for bringing my brother home after a very traumatic accident. I would've told her to not be mad to the Lord for letting this happen and it will be okay in the long run. I wish I could've done a lot differently back then, but nonetheless it all turned out okay and my family is now happy and healthy.
