An Elective that Impacted my Education by Molly - September 2017 Scholarship Essay

An elective class that impacted my education was Creative Writing in the last year of high school. I was able to gain more knowledge on all kinds of creative writing: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, etc. My creative side was able to come out and write many different stories. It was very fun and I was able to receive feedback from my teacher and my peers. It impacted my education the most as I was very intrigued to learn more in the class, making me more excited about education.
The course helped me get closer to getting my soon to be pursuing creative writing degree, leading me to success even if I was still in high school. It helped me gain more knowledge about creative writing as well as the many fields within it. From fiction to poetry, It helped me become more knowledgeable in many broad spectrums of creative writing. Throughout, I was subjected to more feedback on my writing as well as getting opinions from different people as well as the same people. As well as opinions, I was subjected to different work that I have never done before, but was excited to face. The many obstacles of unfamiliar work helped me become a better student along with becoming a better writer. The class set deadlines for work. Setting deadlines helped me see what being an author would be like as there will be deadlines when I am in the profession. I will have to set deadlines for book publishings or book reviewings. I had to make sure I kept up with the work and always had a creative mind in the classroom as well as outside of it. The course also set me up for the real world other than my dream career as I have more knowledge on writing documents other than books. The course helped me think about the stories I was in the middle of creating more than usual to make sure I didn’t lose track of it. The bigger projects at the end of the course allowed me to be able to create bigger stories and more in depth characters. I made sure I put in the right amount of detail in my stories and not to let the story drag on or cut too short. I learned a lot more about writing and how to create stories well. I had a lot of fun with it all. It was one of the best, if not, the best class I have ever taken. The class was very helpful in getting me more ready for my dream job.
If I had the chance to take the course again, I would. It helped me get closer to my dream job. It impacted my education in ways I didn’t know it could. Creative writing was a great class to be creative when I couldn’t be in my other classes that were more scientific and mathematical. Creative writing was an election that impacted my education and impacted my dream of becoming an author.
