Crave the Unknown, sincerely Dr. Davis by Molly - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
Good Morning class, My name is Dr. Davis and I will be your professor for intro to psychology. Today is the our first class, but that doesn't mean I'll challenge to your full abilities yet... or will I? The first thing I want you to do is: Grab a piece of paper and define what psychology is.
Why did Waldo go to therapy? To find himself. When people think of psychology they most likely think it’s a way to help fix people. A proper definition of psychology (from the Merriam Dictionary) is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context.
The human body itself is an amazing thing. But how cool would it be to try to understand your own mind, let alone someone else’s thoughts and feelings? If I was a college professor I would be a psychology teacher. The brain expands day by day through new experiences in addition to repetition. Therefore, by teaching others what I know, my mind grows as well. The class would be a journey through all of the psychological principles and concept, with one end goal—the knowledge. What the student will gain from this course will allow him or her to critically evaluate psychological research and have a more in-depth understanding of human thought and behavior. Myself as the teacher, will learn how my students think, learn, and process the information differently from my own.
In a personal aspect, one can never achieve the knowledge of the world—but who says it’s not possible? The lifestyle I want to live is one that finds something to learn in everything I do. I want to always seek knowledge like I have short-term memory loss and I find something new and fascinating in everything. Life is short, pursue the unknown.
That is all for class today students, go out and explore the unknown. I want you to keep your definiton of psychology and see how different your view of what you thought on the first day of class to the last day. You might be astonished how others brain's functions teaches you more about your own.
