What to Expect in 2023 by Mohammad - December 2022 Scholarship Essay

2022 was a year of surprises. It was also a year of lessons learned from. I learned to be assertive of myself and the decisions that I make. Secondly, I learned to rise above my injuries and sadness, and to climb the ladders of success. Finally, I learned that my past will live to benefit me in the future. These lessons speak for themselves and for me. Before we address these lessons and their impacts to the new year, let’s define my goals for the new year.

Firstly, I want to finish my high school career and graduate with a mark to be left about my story . Secondly, I want to prepare myself for the next phase of my education which is my college career. Finally, I want to enter college with a will to pursue my dream. Now that the goals have been addressed, let’s give an answer to how 2022 will impact 2023.

As for assertiveness, I intend to achieve my goals with assertiveness and confidence. I can’t graduate high school and enter college without being confident in the decisions that I make to strive for success. To prepare myself for my college career, I will need to rise up stronger than ever and have the willpower to enter college and the real world with the courage and determination to dominate. My past has impacted me for the better, and it even haunted me at times to put me in despair. I realized that my past isn’t a terminator, but a reminder that it will stick to shape my Palestinian Muslim identity. My past will push me to graduate high school and college as a Palestinian Muslim . My past will propel me to showcase this identity to my future professors and future employers. This is how 2022 will impact 2023 and the future that will progress on to tell a story that can impact someone else.
