Future Pharmacist by Miya - August 2024 Scholarship Essay
Some people in college still do not know what they want to be when they grow up, but from a young age, I knew I wanted to be a pharmacist. Because my mom and sister are both nurses, I have always been exposed to the medical field. When my mom would occasionally take me to the hospital she worked at, the patients would voice to me the excellent care my mother would give to them. Evenmoreso, her coworkers would point out how caring she is to others in the hospital. This inspired me to want to give the same care and love my mom gives to others. Whether I was walking a friend to the nurses’ office or helping my classmates with our AP Biology homework, I was always willing to help.
When looking into careers, pharmacy turned out to be the perfect career for me. I would be able to care for patients by prescribing medications, but in a more private setting with less direct patient contact. Currently, I am completing my prerequisites for pharmacy school. Being accepted into pharmacy school and becoming a pharmacist is my next big educational goal. As I continue to maintain my 4.0 GPA, I know I can achieve this goal. Since I attend an HBCU, I know I can impact underserved groups of people and provide fair treatment to all people.
