How i would make the most of my gap year by Milton - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

If I were to take a gap year before college it would allow time for me to travel the world, acquire internships, and even give time to make money towards my desired degree.
Traveling the world is something not many people ever get to do. However, a gap year is the perfect time to do so. While in college, I will not have enough time to travel because of school work. And after college, I will be too busy trying to find a job in order to live. On the other hand, while taking a gap year, I will have a whole year to go where I please. Being a student in high school, I haven’t experienced enough to truly say what I want to do for the rest of my life. Traveling while taking a gap year can also allow me to learn about different cultures and environments which could potentially shape what I want to major in. For example, if I were to travel to Antarctica and I see pollution in the Arctic and the polar ice caps melting, maybe I would want to change my major to wildlife conservation so I can save animals.
Next, I would gain as many internships as I can so that I may better learn about my future major. These internships could potentially allow me to have a head start when I get to college. This head start is vital because it allows me to be more successful in classes, therefore it is less chance of me having to waste money and retake a class. Coming out of high school, I don’t have a lot of credit on my student resume. However, internships can also be used to build up my student resume for school admissions. The building up of my student resume can allow me to have a better chance of getting into my desired school.
Lastly, I will work to make money for school. Getting a job during my gap year can allow me to pay for some or all of my future degree. Working will also give me hands-on experience in the adult world. Not only will this help me get hands-on experience but it will help me later down the road of life so that I am never in debt. Working will also not put too much stress on my parents to pay for my college.
In conclusion, there are many ways to make the most out of a gap year; however, I would travel the world, acquire internships, and get a job to help pay for college Coming out of high school, I don’t have a lot of credit on my student resume.
