2016 Student of the Month by Mikhale - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
2016 has approached quite rapidly than I have imagined. Pondering on 2015, I look at the high and low points over that year. I look at those flashbulb memories of past and failing moments. Each day I thought about what may be, what if’s and how can I… I know for one that throughout 2015, challenge has become my best friend. Unprepared as I was, I classified myself as a student integrated with chaotic stirs of stew. This year will be the do-over, changing my ways are not a simple journey, and guidelines must be mapped. Extreme amount of content to study; confirming previous assignments are done, read to turn in and the grand finale-final grades; How can I conquer all?
I have learned the to-do’s and the not to-do. PROCRASTINATION! I know you have probably procrastinated before or close to it, you are not in the same boat alone. Through procrastination, it made me emotionally stable that on the flip-side knowing that it accounted for a way to study or complete an assignment. Now, applying the issue to my school lifestyle, the tendency to repeat the act information briefly looked upon suffering from forgetfulness I have experienced hard-ships, failing. Obtaining information should be used is a scientifically proven method called the spacing-effect in psychology. Spacing information from a week in advance and reviewing each day is a memorizing technique to be used to prepare for any test, finals or not. Previously mentioned, study skills are a must in my world. Whether creating flashcards, cheat sheets, or any other method of my preference provides a state of content with a mind of confidence.
So, far the study habits and preparation consequences involved the mind. Becoming better involves the body and mind, relaxation. Going into an atmosphere with nervousness, anxiety, low self-esteem is not going to get me the optimum amount of perspiration as a state of coolness. However, remember that school is not the end of the world, but if it was then I would know how to prepare for it. Developing methods suitable to my set point of comfort either can cause a lousy day due to procrastination; or confidence in the success of your finals. Learning from past experiences, 2016 is going to see a changed student with a 360 degree turn around. Improved studying skills, better timing and clear headed attitude is a new student, me.
