Be loud and entertaining by Micheal - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
“Anyone who tries to make a distinction between education and entertainment doesn't know the first thing about either.” This quote by Marshall McLuhan pretty much sums up the advice that I would give to a teacher who had to teach me. This quote is stating that to educate you have to capture a person’s attention or entertain them and that a truly great educator could win Emmy for most entertaining classroom or at least be a nominee. A teacher who entertains could teach me very well because they could inspire me and keep me interested in the topic they teach. They make the learning a motion picture instead of a dry book.
I have had the good fortune throughout the years to have entertaining teachers and they have taught me in a special and connecting way. I had a teacher named Mr. Jones who helped make history an adventure because of the way he entertained us and made us laugh. I had teacher named Mr. Huidor who fascinated us with stories and recollections of his childhood while teaching us many things from the past. I had a math teacher named Mrs. Pamatan who entertained us with funny puns and made statistics fun. I had an Economics teacher who made economics entertaining because his witty jokes and sharp remarks. I had a linguistics teacher whose interactive approach entertained us and made memories to be remembered ingrained with linguistics lessons. The point I am trying to make is that these are the teachers I remember and whose lessons I tend to remember better and so if you want to teach to me effectively you should be entertaining.
