Unity by Michaela - July 2018 Scholarship Essay
As student body president, I wish to see our community grow closer as a unit. Most schools have groups of friends that are exclusive to other students. This can be detrimental to students who would like to join in another group because they are not accepted into that certain group. Everyone should be accepted. We should all love each other and not be stand-offish to others who are not like us. There is only one "us"
Through my efforts, our student body will work together and become more open as far as friend groups are concerned. Our school will do community service, musical chairs during lunch, and varying student clubs in order to encourage students to befriend someone they had never been friends with before. I would like us to be one huge friend group. Our tolerance will grow and ignorance cease to exist. We should see each student as a piece of our puzzle; everyone has a part to play in it and we are all accepting of each other. Under my presidency, there should be no certain friend groups. Students will be encouraged to mingle with others outside of their clicks. This will widen our open-mindedness as we are becoming adults so that when we enter the work force, we will be more accepting of others.
