Discipline by Michael - January 2022 Scholarship Essay

One big factor that contributed to my academic success was discipline. This skill allowed me to submit assignments on time, get more prepared for tests, and raise my grade point average.

By working on my self discipline, I was able to turn in my formative assignments more consistently. I resisted the urge to go see friends or my girlfriend after school, so I could stay in my room and work on my assignments. Even though these formative grades are only worth five percent of the overall grade, they add up and end up making a big difference on your report card. In addition, I started straying away from the party crowd, and completely cut off all types of alcohol and drugs from my life. So on weekends I can now focus more on being prepared for tests. Which is crucial considering summative grades add up to a total of ninety-five percent of your grade. Also, by staying away from the house parties, I can now get the proper rest to be ready in the mornings to go in and test. I can even wake up early enough to cook food, which goes a long way while preparing for a big test.

Staying disciplined with my school work directly influenced my grade point average. Which is very important considering you have to have a certain average to even start the process of applying to most schools. Also, there are grade point average requirements to participate in clubs, sports, and other school activities.

In conclusion, discipline is what I have developed and strengthened throughout the year to succeed in my academic career.
