No to Studing Abroad by Michael - March 2016 Scholarship Essay

This is a simple matter to consider, that of if college students should have to study aboard. I think that it really depends on what the student is studying. However, in general they should not be required to do so. There are so many different reasons why they should not have to so I will keep them brief.
The first is that students are already spending a lot of money to even attend college. Over the past decade college tuition and fees have increased dramatically. Most students are only able to afford college by getting students loans which follow them for the rest of their lives. By adding the requirement that they have to study abroad it only increases the financial burden that they have to take.
Another reason that it needs to not be a requirement is college already has a lot of requirements to get your degree. Colleges make you take classes that you really do not need to take for the field that you are entering. Some of these classes are for humanities credits, which is meant to broaden your mind. However, they just make going to college longer and do not help you when you get into your degree field. So by adding that requirement, they would have to make a typical 4 year degree longer, which is not in any way a good thing.
