Education Podcast by Micayla - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

Good morning to everyone listening to another one of my Podcast. If you’re new here, my name is Micayla Waters and this is “Question of the Day.” This podcast is focused on providing helpful information for teenagers transitioning into adulthood. I am one of these many teens, trying to take on the real world one step at a time, so why not do it together? Although this podcast is pretty funny, it is strictly for educational purposes.
Each day I will discuss a new topic, and allow my streamers to voice their opinions, debate on the opinions, and come to an agreement. Today’s question is, “How do you properly manage your time?” Now this question was a hard one to answer, because everyone has different methods, and let’s be honest, even for adults it may be hard to prioritize everything in life. In my personal situation, I am a full-time college student and work full-time at a restaurant. Trying to find a balance between school and work was not easy, but I realized if I wanted an education, a future career, and financial stability I was going to have to make sacrifices.
Most 17 year olds spend their weekends at parties, malls, and their friends’ houses. I realized at a very young age that I am not like the people in my age group. I manage my time simply by weighing out the pros and the cons to each and every decision I make. If you know you’re going to be late, why stop and get a coffee? Find a healthy balance from the things you need, and the things you simply want. Although it may be tempting to skip a class, or call out on a shift, and have a beach day with your friends, in the long run it is not going to benefit you.
Another method I have found helpful to me is planning out my day (and week) beforehand. Many people my age tend to “live in the moment,” but being organized is a very important key to bring a successful adult. If I know I have a class at 9, then I will know not to plan a shift until 1pm. Being organized will not only help you better manage your time, it will cause a lot less stress in the long run. Something else I had to learn the hard way is to stop wasting my time watching TV, on my phone, and other things that can be very time consuming. This saved me time to get ready, and be early to events I had to attend.
Thank you for tuning in to another Question of the Day podcast, we will be back to answer any calls you may have shortly. Before I leave you, remember that properly managing time is something everyone struggles with at some point in their life. It is perfectly okay to not have everything figured out. I believe if you use my tips you will be very successful. Tune in to last week’s podcast if you missed it at: www.questionoftheday.com/micaylastips
