A Choice to Change The World by Mia - July 2024 Scholarship Essay
As I reflect on the completion of my First-Year I am amazed by the transformative journey I have embarked upon.It began with a significant transition to Spelman College, moving into a new environment where I faced numerous challenges that tested my resilience and self-awareness. Adapting to unfamiliar surroundings, I grappled with being antisocial and confronting mental health issues. Despite these hurdles, I have emerged stronger and more determined than ever before.
One of the most profound lessons I have learned is the power of self-improvement. I have always believed in the importance of identifying my weaknesses and actively seeking ways to overcome them. This year, however, this belief has become a guiding principle of my life. I have came to see this ability as my own superpower- a relentless drive to become better each day.
Navigating through the struggles of a new environment, I quickly realized that growth often arises from discomfort. The initial challenges of mental health management and social integration could have easily discouraged me. Instead, they become a milestone for personal development. I learned to embrace feedback, viewing it as valuable insight instead of criticism. This has allowed me to transform setbacks and obstacles into opportunities for growth.
I have learned that setbacks do not define me; rather provide fertile grown for personal and professional growth. By acknowledging my flaws and actively working to address them, I have unlocked new levels of self-awareness. Moving forward, these lesson will serve as the cornerstone of my approach to life and career. I am committed to fostering a mindset of continuous improvement, where every experience is an opportunity learn and evolve. By exceeding my own expectations and embracing change with optimism, I am confident in my ability to achieve my goals and contribute meaningful to my community.
