My Passion is Nursing by Mia - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

I have never been prouder of myself for knowing what I want to do with my life. I have always loved helping people. It comes to me naturally. My name is Mia Tranchina and I want to become a nurse.

I am so grateful I have gotten a jump start in high school on my future medical career. I took a Certified Nursing Assistant class my Junior year in high school. I did my internship for my CNA class at a nursing home. This year I am taking a Pre-Nursing II class, and will be certified as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist by my high school graduation. I am currently working at a Pediatric Clinic for my internship. These skills and certifications will give me an advantage over my classmates when I go to college. I will have the necessary skills to work in a hospital, medical clinic or nursing home, and I will get paid top dollar. I will also have hands on experience in the career path I want to pursue. My classmates without these certifications, will be stuck at minimum wage jobs in college.

Exciting things are happening in my life at this moment in time. My eighteenth birthday is next week on February 22nd. I will be graduation from high school in May and starting college in August. I am determined now to start on my medical career journey.

Next week when I turn eighteen, I plan to get my CNA certification papers ready for interviews. I will call a local hospital and nursing home to apply for a CNA job. My plan is to work at a hospital three 12 hour shifts per week and get a PRN job at a medical clinic or nursing home. I want to work and experience many departments of the medical facilities before I start college. When college starts, I hope to have classes three days a week and work two 12 hour shifts at the nearby hospital. Then I can also do PRN work at several medical facilities. I would love to get hired in the pediatric department at the local hospital. Then when the new Children’s Hospital opens up in months to come, I can transfer there and be a part of a new hospital caring for the sick youth in our area. After nursing school, I would love to come back and work in a hospital that I was a part of starting up.
